What makes a brownie special?

now I have been trying different recipes and I found that replacing water ingredient with whole milk gives it an extra umph, what can I do to make my brownies exceptional. My cousin made these brownies that were to die for and she wont tell me her secrete- they were really fluffy and perfectly cooked.
